University of Florida or most commonly called UF is a public university established in 1853. Its total undergraduate admission is 35,247 with a campus size of 2,000 acres. The university continues to push knowledge forward to provide quality education to its students. It follows a semester-based academic calendar and it ranks 35th in the 2019 Edition of Best Colleges is National Universities. It is a part of the State University System of Florida.
Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, University of Florida is 8th largest university in Florida when it comes to the student population. There are sixteen academic colleges and beyond 150 research facilities and institutes in the university. It has various graduate professional programs including engineering, dentistry, business administration, medicine, and law.
The university is about two miles from central Gainesville. The teams playing in the intercollegiate sports are collectively known as the Florida Gators. They compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I and in the Southeastern Conference. The men compete in nine men's sports while there are 12 sports where women can compete in. The university has mascots in the name of Albert and Alberta the Alligators. The football team that is also popular in the name "The Swamp" is hard to beat. In addition, 15% of students are members of the university's more than 60 fraternities and sororities. Freshmen are not forced to live on campus, but most of them still go for this option. Everyone in the university can be part of Gator Nights held on Fridays.

After the Florida Gators football head coach requested to develop a beverage that can help athletes continue to be hydrated. This is the birth of Gator-Aid. The Gators participated in the Olympics in 1968. From then on, Gators have proven that they do not let themselves be defeated by anyone by representing 37 countries in the Olympic Games.
Furthermore, the university has respectable graduate courses through the Gerbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Levin College of Law, Warrington College of Business and the College of Medicine. In addition, the university is fused with Oak Hammock, a retirement community where students can complete internships and work and be trained by mentors. Dance Marathon was established in 1995. This is the university's method of appealing for funds in the country. The event goes on for the entire year which begins in spring. From the day of its establishment, University of Florida's Dance Marathon has already collected enough funds for the UF Health Shands Children's Hospital. |

In 1999, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences along with other researchers transplanted a gene from ordinary algae to increase production of crops. It resulted to 30 percent increased production and development of a more efficient, greener planting process.
A group of UF physicists played major roles in Large Hadron Collider's crucial experiments in 2012. The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment had an important part in establishing the presence of "the God particle" or the Higgs boson. Physicists, graduate, and undergraduate students took part in this experiment.
